Black Gold Barrel Aged American Malt Whiskey is reminiscent of a smokey-oaked Highland Scotch with defined dark chocolate notes in the nose and palate.
Background
We knew that the right stout recipe would yield an incredible malt whiskey, so we asked Black Flannel Brewing Co. Certified Cicerones, Dan, Justin & Chris to create the perfect mash with a particular aroma, flavor, mouthfeel, and finish in mind.
This wonderful dark malt whiskey is distilled from what is essentially an un-hopped Stout recipe. The brewers mashed and the resulting “wort” was fermented, distilled (more than once) and aged in new 10 gallon, American White Oak casks with a heavy #4 char.
The Result?
EXACTLY what we wanted! The resulting whiskey is reminiscent of a smokey-oaked Highland Scotch with defined dark chocolate notes in the nose and palate. Vanilla and oak come through from the barrel, the sip is incredibly smooth with a finish that leaves you wanting another sip as soon as possible.
Black Gold received a bronze medal at the American Distillers Institute Craft Spirits Competition in California in 2021.
